My friends and colleagues, thanks to friends connected with Ohio State University, we share this information. The enclosed conference promises to offer great returns for our profession and upcoming potential members of the profession. I am sharing with you hoping that you will enter the dates on your calendar, register and plan to attend. The group plans to have a productive conference in Miami. Check out the schedule. We will wear our full regalia at the Friday evening event and attached will be a special pen designating our degrees. Saturday offers the conference, educational presentations and opportunities for sharing ideas and professionally networking. I will be there and hope to see you there too.
To those who need to publish or perish, Dr. Hepburn is Editor in Chief of the Black PhD/EdD Magazine. Publications in the magazine is considered a professional publication. And, if we want to make announcements via articles in the magazine that has widespread results, the magazine can serve as a valuable tool.
To The Life Network members that successfully planned and implemented the 2011 College and Career Fair held in Orlando. We can certainly share with the group our event, as we can all be very proud of the response and the results. Our students are being offered scholarships to assist them in attending colleges and universities of their choice. NOBODY else in the state has done what we have and the college recruiters eagerly shared that with me. All are excited about repeating in 2012, some are saying, "It is wonderful to see somebody 'doing something' rather than just talking. Please put me on the invitation list!". I am so proud of The LIFE Network for the splendid program. We will repeat in 2012 and the audience and location have been put in place by our partners.
To my Florida family, we can drive and spend the night at a hotel or spend the night at home. This promises to be a great event and Florida needs to be represented. We will make contacts and form associations with other PhDs and EdDs both in and out-of-state, which makes for excellent networking for us, our students and our children.
The clock is ticking, faster than some of us desire. Let's come together and make a difference for our upcoming doctorates and those to come in future years. I want to make a lasting difference, one that can change the number of black doctorates. At present, blacks represent a mere 1% of doctorates in the world. Conferences like this one can make a difference in the current statistic. We can increase that number! My
Ohio friend and I are making plans. We will definitely attend.
Yours in academia,
Dr. Ros
